OTAGO PROFESSIONAL CENTRE, A .meeting of tho executive of tho Otago Centre, New Zealand A.thMio and Cycling Union, was held last evening ip Mr A. J. Sullivan’s rooms, Empire Buildings. The president {Mr A. Polwarth) presided over a largo attendance. Messrs A. Polwarlh and A. M. Wylie submitted a comprehensive report on the business transacted at the annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, held at E'ltham on.. September 14. at which they were the Otago delegates. The Secrotary of the North Canterbury Centre wrote stating that it had sent three representatives at considerable expense to 'compete in fho AVia'rnambool-Mel'bourno road race. The centre invited financial assistance .from the Otago Centro in connection with the expense,,of sending) these competitors to Australia.-—After some discussion it was decided to grant T2 2s to the North Canterbury Centre. Applications tor affiliation were granted to tho clubs at Lovell’s Elat, Tahakopa, Cromwell, Palanonston, ; Waihomo, Waikouaitl, Kelso, Reywick, Kaitangata, Strath Taieri, Miller’s Flat, North Otago, and Vincent. Tho various programmes submitted for sports meetings wore approved. The approval of tho Mount Ida Club was suspended until a. rule conflicting with tho centre’s conditions tois amended. Applications were received from the Cromwell and Onwkau Clubs for permission to hold meetings on tho same date. —After several of tho delegates had expressed their opinions on, the subject, it was decided to' grant the requests of both •clubs.
Messrs J. Forbes and R. B. Meek (North Otago), A. M. Wylie (Soutli Otago), and H. Stevens (Central Otago) were appointed official hajidicappers. THE VISITING- AMERICANS. The complete personnel of the American athletic team to tour tho dominion has been received by the chairman of the N.Z.A.A.A. The team is as follows;—■ Charles Paddock, Merchant, and Krogness. Tho last named belongs to Chicago. Merchant is reputed to he a first-class man in field events., According to a cablegram from California, he won tho 120yds hurdles at IHrvard in l&isec, and also registered good performances in tho'high and broad jumps. s Last year Krogness ran second to Earl Thompson, the world’s champion, in tho American hurdles championship. Tho team loaves San .Francisco at an early date. Tiro final instructions, to bo lorwarded to them before their departure, aro now being -prepared hy tho Nciv Zealand Council officials.
