JBy SxmuißHiß.] Jttm of Merest concerning Corps (Town and Country! shooting, and lemtonnl notes generally will be accepted. Copy, addressed to " Shimisher, should be in hand not later than Monday morning. This fa the last “ training "week before the New Year for both the 6th Mounted Rifles Regiment and the Ist Ikttahon Otago Regiment. Parades for the otn Mounted Rifles will resume on January 25 and the Ist Battalion’s first parade after the holidays will be held on January 29. Last Saturday the remainder of A Company, Ist Battalion, paraded at the Pclichct Bav rifle range. The parade w in charge of Lieutenant M. J. 0. laylor, with Lieutenant A. P. Roydhouso second in command. The day, although warn, proved ideal for shooting. Lieutenant Rovdhouse was among the top scotorfl for the day. Nearly all members of A U>mpany have now completed their Instructional practices of the Now Zealand annual musketry course." Major H. E. Barrewclough, D. 5.0., M.C., officer commanding Headquarters Company, expects his company to complete the full course, including the filing of field practices, immediately after the commencement of parados after the New Tear. Lood results are to be expected from, tins company, for a great deal of extra tune has been spent on musketry training. Next Saturday A Squadron, sth Mounted Regiment, is parading at Pellet Bay-range to fire the annual course. The machine gi™ section—-Vickers, of the'6th Mounted Rifles—is makum splendid progress. I understand that this section shows more keenness for its work lhan any other similar section parading at the Drill Hall. At their present rate of progress they should bo ready to commence firing 1 trio course with the giuos early next year. In connection with the area nflo_ meeting to be held early next year. Major H. E."Banwclough, D. 5.0., M.C., will represent the Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment, on the Committee of Management. At the recent inspection of B Company, Ist Battalion (Oamaru), the adjutant was able to express satisfaction with the worn done there. The company officers at Oamaru (-Captain W. H- B. Widclowson and Lieutenant J. Branthwaild) are to be congratulated on the present efficient state of their command. The n.c.as Txrored Iccon &n>d efficient, &Tid exo & credit to their officers. On the Saturday previous to the inspection a hall-day parade—musketry was held, and out of a total of seventy-six on the strength seventy'-two trainees wore present, and the remaining four were accounted for in a satisfactory' manner. It is a great pity that the town companies cannot reach and maintain tho fame standard in the matter of attendance.

I loam that the following medals have been awarded to members of the Ist Battalion :—Lieutenant-colonel 1). Golquhoun, D. 5.0., the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal; Captain W, II. _ S. Widdowson (M.C.), the twelve years New Zealand Service Medal; Captain G. E. H. Garden, the twelve years Now Zealand

Service Moduli Q.M.S. G. Doran, the Colonial Auxiliary Heroes Long; Service Modal , ... In the latest General Orders ! see that the appointments of the following socondlieutommte on probation have been confirmed: —A. P. Roydhonse, G. G. Black, F. S. Arthur. In. Hie same volume of General Orders Major H. .E. Barrowdough, D. 5.0., M.C., fa recorded as having passed his examination for Tactical Fitness fox ’Cornnicind, Paxt I. fttid 11. The Otago Officers’ dub held tho last of Its fortnightly evenings last week, when there were some .sixty to seventy ladies and gentlemen present. Lieutenant Wilson entertained the assemblage by screening and explaining a senes of pictures on the Palestine campaign during the Groat War. Portions of this senes had previously ..been shown by Colonel Horens, Major Robertson, and Lieutenant Wilson at different times, and it was decided to hold a ladies’ evening and show the pictures again. Lieutenant Wilson, in the absence of Colonel Kerens and Major Robertson, noted as spokesman, and his entertainment was much enjoyed by all. Light refreshment was handed round during the evening. This completed the syllabus for tho year, but the rooms are to remain open os usual. It is hoped that the interest may be kept up, and members will avail themselves of the use of tho billiard table. The tournament fa now almost completed. Lieutenants Wilson and_ Tyson are to play the semi-finalj and Major Bare raokragh is to play the winner in tho final. A consolation match hais now been started for all players who failed in the first round of the above tournament. The club now has a membership of 160, but I am informed that there are still a large number of young Territorial officers standing out. As it was largely to help these young officers that the club was reorganised, it is a great pity that so many should be so slow in enrolling. It fa Intended to arrange a syllabus next year, in which tho lectures delivered will be of a more practical nature, and more helpful to officers in their Territorial work. It is also hoped that now the initial expense Is over (which was naturally heavy) of getting the club rooms fitted up and everything in good working order, further advancement will bo made in the way of providing military papers and magazines for the use of members. Lieutenant-colonel _A, R. Barclay, who was one of the prime movers in tho resuscitation of tho clnb, has been transferred to Christchurch for twelve months or two years, and will be much missed by members generally.
