DYED TREES
A ER.M.AX EXPERIMENT IN FOREST-PLANTING. Experiments are being made in Germany' with * view to .producing colored trees, and a. striking initial success has already been- reported. ~\n 'area of several acres has been set apart for the purpose in a large forest near tho town of Uslar. Every tree in this area, is hung with a. receptacle containing red or blue colored matter, which is directed, by means of a rubber tube., into the roots of the tree. Electricity aho plays a part iri the-coloring process. The coloring matter makes its way. within about four weeks, to tiro uttermost ends of tho branches and the smallest twigs, in some cases up to a height of 20yds," Hie tree then dies off,and is felled and 1 cut auto timber. The wood thus obtained is used for various purposes, especially for the making of furniture. Tho part of tho forest who.ro the experiments are being carried cm may already be noticed from afar off by the red or 1)1 uo tint of the foliage
