Mr R. W. G. Lye, who has held tho poaition of deputy-district telegx-aph engineer, at Dunedin and Invercargill for- the past seven years, loft this morning to take up a more responsible position ini the Hawke’s Bay district. Mr A. Bogg was a passenger by to-day's express on his way to Wellington. Mr A. C. Fahey, of Tim am, and Mr Y. L. Buckley, of Fairlie, have boon appointed from Otago University .to be dental surgeons alt Die Christchurch Hospital. Mr F. ISimpson, of Wellington, has been appointed superintendent of the Invercargill Fire Brigade. There were sixteen applicants for the position, and the four men left in the final ballot were ‘Senior Foreman 11. H. Price (of tho South Dunedin siilb-tetation), Foreman 0. B. Elliott (of the Dunedin City Brigade), Fireman Y. Armstrong (of the Tim am Brigade), and Foreman Simpson, Mr Simpson ia attached. to the Wellington City Brigade (central station), and has been connected with the brigade for nine, years. He is to take up his new duties on Januam 3.2. A presentation will be made to Captain 0. Thomson, late harbor master at the port of Dunedin, at Messrs Turnbull, Marlin, and Co.'s offices, in Lower Rattrayi bireet, tomorrow. The. various shipping companies are taking this opportunity o! placing on record tho services rendered by Captain: Thomson while a servant of the Otago Harbor Board. Mr .1. Richardson (Commissioner Government Life Insurance), Mr F. B. Bolt, and Mx J. H. Jarrarn arrived in Dunoclin this evening from Wellington. Mr George George, late director of the Sodden Memorial Technical College, Auck- j lancl, left on Friday by the Uliraaroa. for !
