GRATIFYING RESULTS,

MELBOURNE, October 7. (Received October 7, at 9 a.m.) In the House of Representatives Mr Massey Greene, Minister of Defence, m replying to criticisms of the Govern* moni’s policy in fostering and developing trade between Australia and the Pacino Islands, said that the copra trade was eight times greater than it was in 1913. The supply of Australian goods to the Islands had been, greatly increased. A continuous subsidised steamer service to and from tiro Islands was assured.

WHEAT POOL TRANSACTIONS,

SYDNEY, October 6.

The Chairman of the Voluntary t Wheat Pool announced that last season’s pool would be cleared up by the end of the year, when a further payment of 8d per bushel would be made to the farmers, making a, total amount distributed by the pool of over £5,500,000.
