CHRISTCHURCH, October 6. Although the nominations received by the Canterbury Jockey 01u,b for tho principal events at the Metropolitan Meeting show a falling off h numbers, there is certainly no depreciation in quality, for all tho leading performer in tho dominion havo had engagements made for them. The lists ore very representative. _ with the exception of the far North, which is only to be expected considering that the Auckland Racing dub’s Spring Meeting dashes with tho New Zealand Cup fixture. Tho Canterbury Cup and G. G. Stead Memorial Gold Cup entries are E rally noteworthy, and, despite the ist certainty of finding Gloaming iu the latter event, twenty i -one_ other horses have been accorded nomination, including Rapine, King’s Trumpeter, Amythas, Winning Hit, The Hawk, and Maioha. The total entries for the nine events amount to 336, compared with 381 last year. GUNN DEFEATS GANN ON POINTS. A fifteen-round professional 'boxing contest for a purse of £lls, between Harry Gnnn (Timaru) and Charlie Gann (Wanganui), tho professional feather-weight champion of New Zealand, went tho full fifteen rounds at Oamaiu last evening, Gunn gaining the verdict on points after a splendid contest-. The three preliminaries resulted as follows: —Fulcher (Dunedin) beat Worthington (Timaru), Harris (Dunedin) beat Browne (Oamani), Smith (Oamam) beat Green (Christchurch). GOLF. At East Williston (New York) Duncan and Mitchell defeated Crossman and Kline in, a 36-hole match by 5 up and 1 to play.—A. and N.Z. Cable. BILLIARDS: CRYSTAL ATE CUP FINAL. The Crystalato Cup championship was concluded at Auckland on Tuesday evening, the winner being E. Y, Roberts, who von tho cup last year, and has this year won the New Zealand championship. The winner delighted the spectators with clean all-round cannons, winning hazards, and top-of-tlie-tablo play. He ran to his points of 1,000 with Massey at 720.
