The railroads from North Bay are burdened with thousands of refugees from the burning areas. In Haileybury from fifty to 100 people were drowned through being pushed off the dock while attempting to board a rescue boat. Several people were trampled to death, and scores were injured when the flames swept _ a Roman Catholic church, causing a panic. The whole countryside is reported to bo covered with dense smoko.
