PROHIBITION AND EMPLOYMENT.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir,—“ Insomnia ” is quite astray in his letter on Oamaru in this evening’s ‘ Star.’ Oamaru simply has No-license, which is a totally different state of affairs from Prohibition. Oamaru is allowed to import and consume as much liquor as it requires, and its consumption of beer, wine, and spirits is quite normal compared with the rest of temperate New Zealand. Oamaru obtains its liquor under State Control, and upon reflection “Insomnia” will see that State Control! is a good issue- to support at the approaching poll. I recommend “Insomnia” to try a hot toddy at night as a certain cure for his trouble.—l am, etc., Normal Sleeper. August 21.
