TOSCHA SEIDEL
SECOND CONCERT TO-NIGHT. Tho very great success achieved by Toscha Seidel at his first concert at llis Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday evening must be very gratifying to Messrs J. and N. Taitj under whoso direction the young virtuoso is touring Australasia, and there is no room for doubt that Seidel made a very fine impression, as ho has done in Auckland and Wellington. The vepoits which preceded this young artist were undoubtedly well justified, and the enthusiasm which prevailed on Thursday night was a genuine appreciation of the ontioai audience which had assembled to hear and judge him. The audience quickly realised that it was listening to a violinist of exceptional gifts, and his wonderful tone and emotional playing were a, revelation. Tho programme for to-night is of exceptional interest, including as it does the famous ‘ Kreutzer Sonata,’ which is probably the best known of Beethoven’s ten duos for violin and pianoforte. Following this number is Binding’s * Suite in A Minor,’ dedicated to Adolph Brodsky, and written on a classical type, but lending itself greatly to the virtuoso, and it is an extremely difficult work. The ever-popular Schubert-Wilhelm] ‘ Ave Maria’ is followed by Paderewski’s ‘Minuet’ and Beethoven’s Turkish march from the 1 Ruins of Athens, which is tho great master’s finest light cprapisition. The set programme will conclude with 'Anitra’s Dance’ (GriegSeidel) and Sarasate’s ‘ Zapateado,’ with additional numbers. ;■ Tho final concert will be given on Monday evening.
