PSYCHIC PHENOMENA
MR HORACE LEAF. At the request of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mr Horace Leaf has arrived m New Zealand after .visiting the chief cities of Australia. Mr Leaf was .personally selected by the author of ‘Sherlock Holmes’ from among the foremost lecturers on Psychic Science in Great Brxtain. . ,„ . Mr Loaf will give a senes of lecture® during his brief stay in Dunedin, including two lantern lectures illustrating the reality of psychic -phenomena. _ Ine photographs which will he exhibited at these lectures are said to bo of great scientific importance, as they have been takeir by such famous scientists as Sir Oliver Lodge, Sir William Crookes, Professor Lorabroso, and Dr W. J. Crawford *o New Zealander). ' Among the manifestations will be shown the new°substancc known as “ectoplasm.” This mysterious substance has been described by physiologists as a biological substance with powers of transformation. Mr Leaf will show it in various forms, lift-in"" objects without human contact and even °turning in human organs and organism. Telepathy, slate writing, materialisations, fables, and that much-disputed subject, “spirit photography,” will all be dealt with by the lecturer and illustrated-. As evidence of the great interest and importance attached to this subject, Mr Leaf lectured by special request before member* of the English Court before leaving England for Australia. The object of these lectures is to endeavor to convey to the general public of New Zealand a’nd Australia an- idea of. the nature and reality of psychic phenomena, and to convey also some idea of what is being done in research work by the savants of Europe. The question .of their interpretation will bo left to the audience. One of the most important features of the second lecture on 1 Materialisations ’ will be a series of photographs, taken by one of the greatest men in : modern science, of materialisations. The •eanoes were held in the scientist’s own bouie, under the strictest test conditions, with a medium to whom no money was paid. 'The first lecture, entitled The Won<i»n of Psvchio Science,’ will be held in Smith’s Hall, Hanover; street, Saturday •veiling.
