RAILWAYMEN'S REDUCTIONS
CANADIAN PREMIER INTERVENES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, August 15. (Received August 16, at 10.55 a.m.) The Canadian Prime Minister (Mr King) has requested the Canadian railways to deter their reduction in wages or to restore the previous wages, pending the decision of the Government’s Conciliation Board. The workers claimed that the reduction was made while their appeal to this board was still pending. The Prime Minister states that there can bo no guarantee of industrial peace or preservation of law it parties to industrial disputes are permitted to place their own interpretation on Acts which Parliament has passed for the purpose of avoiding strikes.—A. and N-Z.
