DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD
The monthly meeting of tha Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, and attended bv Messrs J, Wilson (chair), S. Webb, J. J. Clark, J. S. Hislop, W. Begg, T. Chalmer. The Superintendent reported that twenty-six calls were attended during July, of which nine were fires in buildings, eleven were chimney fires, one a rubbish fire, and five false alarms (three malicious and two justifiable). The motor ambulance was called into service on 100 occasions during the month. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote advising that the Minister regretted his inability to recommend an alteration in the law in order to place fire boards in the same position as local bodies in respect to borrowing moneys from Government departments, and also empowering trustees to lend 1 moneys to fire boards. —Deceived. Th financial position as at August 8 showed a credit balance of £2,355 2s 7d after payment of accounts. ANNUAL MEETING. At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting the annual meeting of the board was held. the Chairman (Mr Wilson) presented the annual report (which was published in our issue of yesterday). Air T. Chalmer, in seconding the motion for its adoption, spoke of the satisfactory position shown therein. It was a good thing, he said, to draw special attention to the sinking fund, as it showed the board was making good provision for the future. The Chairman remarked that the secretary (Mr J. Haraann) should be complimented on the admirably-prepared report. The superintendent’s report was referred to the General Committee for consideration.
