In tho second set of the Singles match Clochet (France) defeated O’Hara Wood (Australia), 614, 3-6, 6-0, 7-9, 6-4. In the third set O’Hara Wood became wild, and Cochet speeded up, gathering in his opponent’s shots all over the court. O’Hara Wood grew wilder, and never won a game. In the fourth set he recovered his form, and was steadier, but Coohet played a dazzling game. Both men gave an exhibition of spectacular tennis. At seven all O’Hara Wood played superlatively, and, taking the last two games, won the set. In the deciding set O'Hara Wood showed remarkable strength for a while, and Cochet appeared to be weakening under the strain; but he recovered, and, taking four out of the last five games, won the match.—A. and N.Z. Cable. ANDERSON CANNOT PLAY IN DOUBLES. NEWYORK, August 10. As there is no chance of Anderson playing for at least a week, Patterson and O’Hara, Wood will be in the Doubles pair against France. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
