WASHINGTON, August 11. (Received August 12, at 11 a.m.) Tlie amendments to the Tariff Bill resulted in a compromise. An amendment has been submitted in the Senate providing for the equalisation of differences m industrial conditions abroad and in the United States. In order to fix the duty the President shall base his decision on the cost of production instead- of on the conditions of competition.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
