DUNEDIN CHORAL SOCIETY
The Dunedin Choral Society, in this issue, notify particulars of their concerts of Tuesday and Wednesday next, to be given in His Majesty’s Theatre. The principal items are the first and second parts of ‘ Hiawatha ’ —the poem by Longfellow, and the music for soloists, chorus, and orchestra by S. Coleridge-Taylor. In it the poem weaves into verse some of the beautiful legends of the North American Indians. When first published in 1853 it was enthusiastically received—public readers read it to large audiences, and more than once it has been set to music. A _ modern setting is the one no to be given by the Dunedin Choral Society. In it there is splendid music for soprano, tenor, and baritone soloists, chorus, and orchestra. Choruses which will probahy make special appeal are ‘ Then Said They to Chibiabos ’ ‘ And the Lovely Minnehaha,’ ‘ Forth Into the Empty Forest,’ 1 Then They Buried Minnehaha,’ and ‘ The Generous Hiawatha.[ The box plan for reserving seats is open at The Bristol Piano Company.
