CHURCH CONFERENCE PROPOSALS. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 12. At a conference of representatives of the different Protestant churches the following resolution regarding the B’hle in schools was carried:— “ That the conference proposes as a united platform for securing Bible instruction in State schools—(1) That a text book be prepared by representatives of the Christian churches for approval by the Education Department, including (a) a passage of Scripture and (b) a selection of hymns; (2) that this text book be used in the State schools for Scripture lessons to be given by the teachers with simple explanations, for fifteen minutes daily, to be opened with the Lord’s Prayer; (3) that a conscience clause be allowed for teachers unwilling to give Scripture instruction, and for parents not desiring their children to attend such instruction - ; (4) in the event of any teacher availing himself of the conscience the school committee shall make suitable arrangements for conducting the Scripture lessons.” The resolutions wore submitted to the Minister of Education and to Mr Caughley (Director), and the Minister has "promised to bring them before Cabinet.
