ST. KILDA FIRE BRIGADE
The annual meeting of the above brigade was presided over by Captain G. A. Lucas. There was a. full attendance of brigade members, and several honorary members were also present. The report stated that attendance of the members at all turns-nut and demonstrations had been satisfactory. The annual competitions held on Alexandra Park had evoked considerable interest, and keen competition resulted for the medals presented by the St. Kilda. Council, Lieutenant Miller, and Mr W. Goodeve. The total number of alarms registered for the past year was twenty-one. Most of these wore for trivial outbreaks, and no less than nine were false alarms. Mr J. Hanson was thanked for instruction in first aid, iris lectures and demonstrations of practical work being much appreciated. The Gollio Winter Cup competition had been keenly contested, the winner‘proving to bo Fireman B. A. Brown. Tho U.P.B.A. demonstration, to be held in Dunedin during Carnival Week next February was looked forward to with interest., As a result of tho inspection made by Advisory Superintendent T. J. Watts, of the U.F.8.A., it was decided that St. Kilda Fire Brigade qualified in every respect for tho A grade rank. Tho report also made mention of the brigade’s social activities. The report was adopted, and general business followed.
Office-beaifers elected were; —Captain, C. A. Lucas; lieutenant, T. Toner; foreman, E. A. Harris; secretary, C. H. Hitchcox; treasurer, D. A, Teller. During tho evening the mayor (Mr J. Dove) drosented Fireman B. A. Brown with the Collio Cup, and Cr E. Longworth handed over to the same fireman a twoyears’ service bar.
