TOSCHA SEIDEL

MASTER OP THE VIOLIN. Russia is noted for its musical celebrities, and lately wo have had first-hand evidence of what it can produce in the way of genius. The latest star in the firmament whom J. and N. Tait will introduce to New Zealanders is 'ioscha Seidel, whose violin prowess is said to bo nothing short of sensational. He gives individuality to every number, and endows it with much of his own magnetic personality; not that he departs mf.-kedly from the composer’s intention, but he is so strongly individualistic that this quality must come out in his playing. He is master of his instrument, and master of himself. The violin ho plays on is a Guadagnini, dated 1786. It never leaves his sight, and the most elaborate precautions are taken to prevent it suffering any injury. Whether it be in slow, dignified movement, those which require the utmost delicacy, or those calling for brilliance and technical skill, Toscha Seidel is equally impressive. He gets right to the hearty of what ho is interpreting. Once heard, the desire grows to hoar him again and again. The audience generally remark on 14s unusual hands. They are small, with short fingers, but they answer all his requirements for the most difficult fingering.. Practice has given them a wonderful touch. Seidel will appear at His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday, August 17, 19, and 21. The bos plans open at The Bristol on Monday morning. Special concessions aro announced to students.
