A PUBLIC INSULT

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In your report of tho no-war farce held in tho King’s Theatre on Tuesday night, it is stated that ono person—some Socialistic wind-bag—had the daring effrontery and tire unparalleled impertinence to say that ‘‘ a woman who was prepared to sacrifice her sous was lower than the animals of tho lower world,.’ 1

This is the reflection made upon tho noble heroism of many mothers in this city, who gave up their - dearly-loved sons to fight for the ideals and maintenance of Liberty and F’reedom and the honor of our great nation. It is an intolerance that any person holding such views should bo permitted the freedom of a Dunedin platform, to air his putrid ‘‘opinion.” I hope the Returned Soldiers’ Association will take note of this insult to our soldiers’ mothers, and secure a public apology, or failing this, take other steps. The war cost rny wife the life of two of her sons; hence my indignant, protest.—l am, etc., A Man. August 11
