Mr ?». R. Hunter, organising teacher under the Otago Education Board, has been appointed head master of the Woodville District High School. Colonel Symon, Chief of Swiff of the Southern Command, arrived ;n Dunedin last, evening for the purpose of judging the Boys’ High School Cadets for the Riddiiord 1 Gold Oup, a trophy offered lor competition amongst the adhooi Senior Cadets Corps of Sow Zealand. A .public farewell was tendered at Wellington to Mr G. G. Aitken, Rhodes Scholar, who leaves to-morrow for England. _ The mayor presided over a gathering of representatives of the Government, Opposition, civic, and educational authorities. After several congratulatory speeches Mr Aitken was presented with a substantial cheque. In the course of his remarks the Hon. J. G. Coates said that if Mr Aitken played the game in England) as he had played it in New Zealand, everyone would bo satisfied. Mr T. M. Wilford spoke of how How Zealanders were snapped up at Home, and hoped that Mr Aitken would return to the dominion to give Hew Zealand the benefit of all ho had learned. Mr Aitken said he thought he could promise to return to New Zealand.

Miss Myles, maton of the Dunedin Hospital, is still on the sick list and unable, to resume her duties.

Mr and Mrs Wolf Hams, who were married in Dunedin on June 25, 1872,_celebrated their golden wedding in London. _ His Honor Mr Justice Hosking this morning admitted Messrs James L. Calder, George T. Baylee, and Albert P. Alloo as solicitors of the Supreme Court.
