Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Press Association.

MELBOURNE, August 10.

The most serious Federal political crisis of tho session has arisen over the sugar question. As soon as the House of Representatives met to-day Mr Charlton (Labor leader) gave notice of motion that the Government be severely censured for referring the sugar transaction to tho Public Accounts Committee before disposing of certain amendments which had been moved, and thereby delaying decision on the question .of immediately reducing the price of sugar. Dr Earle Pago (Country Party leader) then moved:

That, in view of the failure of the Government to supply information regarding its dealings jn sugar, as promised for August 9, to enable the House to determine the proper reduction in the

price of sugar, tho Government no longer holds the confidence of the House.

The House adjourned till Friday. There was no consultaticnp between tho Country and the Labor Parties prior to the launching of the motion.
