ARRIVED.—August 10. John. s.s. (4.5 p.m.), 539 tons, Hawick, from Wellington. Waipori. s.s. (5 p.m,), 1,976 tons, Reed, from Adelaide and Hobart via northern ports. August 11. Kotare. s.s. (10.55 a.m.), 147 tons, Mnmby. from Waikawa. The* Kawatiri will leave Newcastle on Monday for Dunedin with a cargo of coal.

The steamer Twickenham, which arrived at Dunedin, yesterday afternoon, loaded her cargo of phosphates at the little island of S(. Pierre, in the Seychelles group. .She left there ou Juno 19, an.d arrived at Newcastle twenty-nine and a-half days later. The Twickenham, which discharged the hulk of her cargo at Bluff, will sail about Monday for Auckland to compfleto discharge. The Waikouaiti left Lyttelton < on Wednesday night for Timaru to continue loadin-' for Sydney. ■ She will complete loading at Bluff.

The Union Company’s steamer Waiota.nu, which arrived at Auckland on Tuesday from San Francisco, is to sail tomorrow for Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Wangaratta was to leave Bluff yesterday for Gisborne. Opua, and Auckland to eomnlete loading for Loudon. Coble advice has been received by the Union Company that the motor ship Hauraki left Newcastle at 9 a.m., on Tuesday for Honolulu and San Franciko. Ad'-ice has been received by the Union Comir’.nv that the R.M.S. Makura left Hnno’nln on Saturday last for Vancouver, en route from Sydney and Auckland, The vessel is due at Vancouver to-morrow.

THE FERRY SERVICE. Tho Mararoa arrived at Lyttelton, at 9.30 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and mails and passengers connected with tho 12.20 p.m. express for tho south. WAIHORA FROM CALCUTTA. The Union Company's steamer Waihora is to Dave Calcutta to-day for Auckland., VVellin"ton, Lyttelton, and Dunedin via Singapore and Samarang. CARGO FROM AUSTRALIA. The Union Company’s steamer Waipori arriv- d til Dunedin at 5 p.m. yesterday from Australia via northern ports, She has a quantity of cargo to discharge, consisting principally of timber from Hobart and general merchandise from Melbourne, Adelaide, Edithburr, -and Launceston. The vessel, which discharged part cargo at Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, is to sail to-night for Groymouth.

j SAILINGS FROM ENGLAND. The Dorset was to have left Liverpool on August 4 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Durham is scheduled to sail from Liverpool on August 12, for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland about October 5. CARGO FROM PACIFIC COAST. Tho Union Company has been advised by cable that the Waitemata left Vancouver on August 7 for San Francisco to complete loading. She will leave the latter port, early next week for Napier, New Plymouth, Dunedin, Bluff, Melbourne, and Sydney. COMMONWEALTH SHIPS IDLE. Some time ago there were seven idle steamers of the Commonwealth Government Line at Melbourne, but gradually tho number was decreased until only three remained in the bay—the Dilga, AraJuen, and Dumosa. On July 24, however, the Dinoga, of 5,303 tons, re .ached Melbourne in ballast from the United Kingdom. It was stated by an official of the line that. there was no immediate prospect of tho ’ steamier remaining in commission. Her crew has been paid off, and she has joined her idle companions until a charter 1 or other employment can be found for j her. WESTMORELAND FROM LONDON. Tho Federal steamer Westmoreland arrived at Dunedin this afternoon from London via Colon, Panama, and north New Zealand ports, and was berthed at tho Victoria wharf to discharge 1,500 tons of general freight. The vessel left London on Juno 11 and arrived at Colon on June 28. Passing through tho Panama Canal, she cleared Balboa the following day The voyage was uneventful. Fine’ weather was experienced until five days from Auckland, when a moderate to fresh westerly gale was encountered, accompanied by heavy rain squalls and high seas. The stormy weather delayed the vessel somewhat, and lasted three days, after which it moderated and became finer as she approached the coast. After discharge tho Westmoreland will load frozen meat at Port Chalmers. .She will continue loading at Lyttelton, Na.oier, Gisborne, and Wellington for London and west coast ports, and should leave Wellington about August 30 for England via Montevideo and Las Palmas.

PORT DENISON TO LOAD AT LONDON. Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that, the Port Denison has been substituted for the Port Kembki, which was to leave London on September 20. The Port Denison will now leave on that date, and it is definitely announced (hat she will make Dunedin her first port of call. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
