[Peb. United Press Association.]
GREYMOUTH, July 31
An outbreak of fire occurred at Stratford and Blair’s saw-mill in Gresson street last evening. The .main building was gutted, but the brigade accomplished a creditable save by extinguishing the fire before it had seriously damaged-the madvnery. The damage is estimated at £SCO, covered by insurance. The yard was stacked with timber, but escaped the flumes. m ’ ~ ~ .. The manager (Mr D, Tennent) said it was presumed that the fire started as tho result of boys occupying the upper room of tho mill. It was the habit, he said, for a number of irresponsible youths to go up there and indulge in smoking and playing cards on Sunday afternoon, and on •several occasions they had been turned out.
