CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
GOOD PERFORMANCES
DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP TO-MORROW.
Sportsmen from many parts of the country were present at Tahuna Park this morning to take part in a sweepstake claybird competition, which served as an introduction to the more serious business to-morrow of the day-bird championship of New Zealand. A similar shooting championship has not been held in Dunedin for some twelve years. Seventeen shooters tool: part this morning, and it is expected that three or four more will enter for the championship to-morrow. Despite the tricky wind this morning the shooting reached a high standard, three competitors finishing equal with twentyone birds each (the possible), with five other competitors with twenty birds each. The results of this morning’s sweepstake were :

Marshall (Palmerston N.), 12yds 20 0. Voice (Christchurch), 10yds ... 20 J. Orlowski (Dunedin), 12yds 19 A. Dobson (Auckland), 14yds 18 H. V. Truscott (Christchurch). 10yds 18 W. Smellie (Green Island), 10yds ... 18 T. Long (Dunedin), 9yds 18 W. H. Bold (Christchurch), 15yds ... 17 Other competitors wore: L. Moffat (Christchurch), H. Smellie (Green Idand), and F. G. Frampton (Christchurch), these dropping out of the competition after four misses. Another sweepstake match was being fired this afternoon. The championship, which is the twelfth, is held under the auspices of the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association.
