BOY KILLED AT FOOTBALL. A Wanganui Association message states that R. L. Williams (aged sixteen) died this morning from the effects of an injury sustained while playing in a Rugby match for the Collegiate School against Wcivorley on Wednesday. Tho boy was seen to crumple up when in tho act of tackling an opponent, medical examination subsequently showing that hia spine was broken. Doceneeo waa the son of Mr Robert Williams (Hastings). MUTTON BONE IN THROAT. How a piece of mutton bone stuck in the throat led to death by setting up gangrene, followed by septic pneumonia, was revealed at tho.inquest held concerning the death of Anthony Benjamin Page, a single man, aged seventy-two, who waa found dead at his residence in Sydenham, Christchurch. In returning a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, the coroner (Mr Wyvem Wilson) said that deceased, had consulted a doctor, who had failed to locate the bone, and' it was a pity he had not had his throat X-rayed. Apparently there was nothing else to cause death except tho mutton hone, which had caused gangrene and septic pneumonia. Death was accelerated by starvation. MAN DROPS DEAD. George Duthio Ritchie, an elderly man, residing at Burnside, and employed as manager of the preserving works there, died suddenly at about 11 o’clock this morning while in tho Regent Mercery Shop, George street. Deceased, who had been treated for Jung trouble a few weeks ago, loaves a wife and family.
