With regard to the representations made to the overseas shipping companies by Dunedin merchants on the handicap they suffer when vessels discharge at Port Chalmers, the direct, linos announce that in_ future when ships from tho United Kingdom do nob proceed through to Dunedin the cargo will be landed at Port Chalmers, hut tho ship owners will refund to tho consignees tho difference between tho cost of railage to Dunedin a.ud the charges which would have been incurred by consignees had tho cargo been discharged at Dunedin. This announcement covers cargo landed by tho following companies:—Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, Ltd.; Commonwealth and Dominion Line, Ltd.; Now Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd.; Federal Steam Navigation Company, Ltd. This represents a concession of 3s 9d per ton.
