A new crisis threatens the engineering trade. In the ballot on the employers’ amended terms, upon which the recent lock-out ended, 43,957 voted for acceptance and 70,901 against acceptance. It is pointed out that only 12£ per cent, of the total number of men affected voted. The parties are conferring.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
CANADIAN RAILWAYS,
A STRIKE THREATENED.
WASHINGTON, July 26,
The Canadian railway shopmen have telegraphed to Mr Mackenzie King (Prime Minister) staling that 97 per cent, of their number have voted in favor of a strike unless the wage reduction proposals are withdrawn. Action ‘ will bo stayed until the Prime Minister replies.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
