BENZINE FREIGHT REDUCED
GOVERNMENT ALIVE TO COMPETITION. [From Oor Pap. lumen-tars Reporter.] WELLINGTON; July 27. ' The competition of motor transport with the railways lias, been fredy discussed in the House this session, and it lias been emphasised that the former is diverting much of the traffic that would. otherwise go to the railways, on account of more attractive freights. Realising this, the Government has. decided to reduce the freight oa benzine, the reduction being gazetted to-day and being effective from Monday next. Benzine was previously in the class 5. A (rate and a,-half), and it has now been transposed ’to doss A. This , means a duction of about 33 per cent.
