Williamson ■ Company continues to bo enjoyed by large audiences, and His Majesty’s Theatre was packed to the doors again last night. The opera was received) as enthusiastically as on the opening nightThe wonderful staging, the singing of the principals and chorus, and tho comedy work all called for special appreciation. The play stands out for the beauty and artistic effectiveness of tbe scenes and tho rich coloring of tho dressing. ‘The Maid of the Mountains’ is a play to delight the oyo and leave bright visions in the memory. The opera was repeated at a matinee this afternoon, and will he presented again to-night. The company leaves lor Lnvervargill tomorrow, and returns on Saturday, when a final presentation of ‘The -Maid of the Mountains’ will bo given, with ‘Katinka’ for Monday and Tuesday evenings.
‘ KATINKA ’—MONDAY AND TUESDAY. Great interest centres in tho two revivals here of tho tuneful and picturesque romantic comic opera ‘Katinka,’ which is as' popular in Dunedin as in Australia, where it broke all known records. When ‘ Katinka ’ was originally staged in Dunedin it created quite a furore and it attracted larger audiences than any comic opera presented during recent years. The plot of ‘ Katinka ’ is particularly interesting, and during its three acts there is not a single minute when the audience is not listening to exquisite melodies, gazing on beautiful bah lets, or laughing heartily at the genuinely humorous comedy scenes or watching tho graceful arrangements of tho ensembles. Special interest attaches to tho first appearance hero of Miss Shiela Gale as Katinka, because it is in this rolo that tho very delightful soprano and musical comedy artiste has achieved her greatest triumph. As Thaddeus T. Hopper, Mr W, S. Percy will be enjoyed in a part which may have been specially written for this very popular comedian. Mr Leslie Holland in ‘ Katinka ’ will present one of his best and l most humorous characterisations. Miss Mione Stewart, the clever young Australian comedienne, should bo seen at her best as Mrs Hopper, and Mr Robert Chisholm will be given further opportunities to distinguish himself as Boris, lilies Jessie Sherwood, a young Australian dancer, who was educated' in tho Russian school in America, will present two dances, in which she will be 'assisted by Mr Thomas Moore.
