(Received May 3, at 12.40 p.m.) In tho Asscmblv the debate on the Members’ Salaries 'Bill was lively, and ( a decision was not reached until the Government further compromised by deleting tho clause which provided that payment should cemo on tho dissolution or expiration of Parliament. __ This assured members of full pay during an election and the retention of their railway passes. An acrimonious debate over the reduction of (Ministers’ salaries followed. >Sir Georgo Fuller stated that the Government proposed to cut £5,000 off the salaries in one lump, and to divide the salaries of twelve Ministers among thirteen. He, appealed to tho House not to show a spirit of rovengo against Ministers. Various amendments were moved, and a stonewall developed. ’The patience ot tho Government became exhausted, and_ at 8 o'clock in the morning a motion on its behalf for the adjournment of the debate till Cue afternoon was passed.
