ST. KILDA COUNCIL

A light agenda, paper was dealt with at tin; ordinary meeting of tho Si, Hilda Borough Council, held last evening. The meeting ,was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Hove), Crs I!. Teller, S. Gaihuti, P. Carolin, 11. M. Scddou, J, Adam, .1. Ritchie, .1, Stenhouse, and R. M. Mercer. The Mayor mentioned Unit the town clerk (Mr W. G. Griffin) was unable to attend the meeting. He moved a, vote of sympathy with Mr Gridin in Ids illness.— This was carried, A letter was -eceivcd from the Minister of Internal Affairs in reference to certain moneys which the council desired to he treated as an antecedent liability under the provisions of the Local Bodies' Finance Act, 1921-22. He stated that the question appeared to be one between the. council and the bankers. IE the, bank was prepared to-certify (hat the amount in question was owing on overdraft on March 31 last, then it could be accepted as an antecedent liability under the provisions of tho Act. A letter was also read from Mr T. K. Sifley, M.P., on the subject. Ho pointed out that under the special circumstances the bank might be able to certify a.s was desired.—The Mayor explained that tho Minister recognised the justice of tho council's claim. Unfortunately, ho was not in a position to fully discuss the position that night, owing h .he absence of the town clerk. If the council gained its point it would greatly improve, its position this year.—The letters were received • Air Sidey to be thanked for the attention he had given the matter. The Acting Town Clerk submitted a report on the electric light situated at the corner of Victoria and Bowen streets. —On the. motion of Gr Sudden it was resolved that tho light, be removed to Chisholm's corner, and that tho, gas lamp in Bowen street, be shifted to the, corner of Quarry mid Bowen streets. It. was decided that, in the event of the Drainage, Board connecting the mud tanks with the existing storm-water drains in Moreau street, the council would indemnify the board against any loss arising therefrom.
