FAIRFIELD METHODISTS. '[’hero ivas a largo attendance at the harvest homo garden party held cm Saturday in aid of the funds of the 'Fairfield Methodist Church. , The fine grounds (lent for the occasion, by Mr and Mrs Seaton), the harmonious music discoursed by the. Green Island Orchestra, the glees and vocal items rendered by the Cavcrr-ham choir were all pleasing features. The Rev. G. P. Hunt, pastor of the church, explained the aims and objects of the trustees—namely, the freeing of the church from debt and the revival of interest in the work of God in the district. Mr Lindsay (Miller (Mayor of Green_ Island) thanked Mr Hunt for the invitation to he present, and expressed the hope that the aims and objects would be realised. The Rev, M. A. Rugby Pratt spoke of the Church as exerting an influence to restrain evil. During the afternoon Mesdamos APFadycn and Mcrcier rendered solos, and instrumental selections wore given by Mr and Mrs Paine. The young folk played games, and some of the older folk had “a roll up” on the ereen. The stalk did good business. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all helpers, and espe daily to Mr and Mrs Seaton. The harvest thanksgiving service was held on Sunday evening. The Rev. 0. P. Hunt preached an impressive sermon on 1 Sowing and Reaping.’ ' BIBLE SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. Anniversary services were hold on Sunday at the Church of Christ, North-cast Valley. Mr Theo. Arnold preached in the morning, his subject being ‘Separation and Service.’ Ho based his sermon upon 2 Corinlhians vi., 16, 17. The hindrance to service, ho said, was the necessity of separation from the vices and sinful allurements of the world. On behalf o_f the congregation ho thanked the superintendent and teaching staff for the faithful and whole-hearted fotvico rendered during the past year. In the afternoon Mr Brooks (Glenaven Methodists) addressed the parents .and scholars. The superintendent (Mr Wrn, King) presided, and expressed his thanks to parents for co-opera-tion and to God for guidance and help during the past year. The attendance of scholars, he said, had been good. The school choir rendered an anthem, ‘ Changing Reasons.’ after which Mr Brooks delivered an inspiring address on ‘The Silent Building of Character.’ Mr 15. P. Corlett preached at the evening service. There was a large attendance of young folk, and the school choir sang an anthem entitled ‘ Victory,’ and a duct, ‘ I Am the. Way,’ was acceptably rendered by two members of the young women’s Bible class. The preached took as his theme ‘Choice Boys of the Bible.’
