LADIES’ GOLF

'Hie open championship of Otago having been decided at Balmnceweu on Saturday morning, n mixed foursome match was played m the afternoon, and resulted as follows; G. L. Cuthbertson and Mrs Orbed, 1 down. H. Breach and Miss Thcomin, 1 down, A. Todd and Miss. Todd, 3 down, H. A. Kelly and Mrs Pottingcr, 4 down. 0. Turnbull and Mrs Dodgshun, 4 down, D. D. M’Carthy and Airs J. W, (smith, | down. C. B. Wight and Mies Watson, 4 down. The prize-giving ceremony took place after the players and guests had been entertained at afternoon, tea. Mr J. A. Cook, president of the Otago Golf Club, expressed gratification at the excellent IwoatW that had favored the tournament, the number of visitors who had come to toko part in it, and the high standard of play reached. The club had retained tho ■championship, but only after a hard fight. Ho specially referred to tho showing made by the younger players, and said that it was apparent that only practice was necessary for these to take tho leading place in the competition. It augured well for the future of the game, and he hoped that tho necessary time would be devoted to practice. The trophies were presented by Mrs Battray, captain of the Otago Ladies’ Golf Club. The following is the list:—Champion cup and trophy, Mrs Cook; runnerup, Miss Anderson; Mill Cup and club trophy, medal handicap, Mrs Barron; medal handicap No. 2, Mrs Barron; Bogey handicap, Mrs Cowie ; eclectic, Mrs CaDcndor and Miss Black (tie); approaching and putting, Mrs‘Cook; driving, Mrs M'Oarthy; putting, No. 1 competition', Mrs M'Oarthy (33); mixed foursomes, G. L. Cuthbertson and Mrs Oibcll (Oamaru); runner-up, H. Brasch and Miso Theomin (Otago). Mrs Orboll returned thanks on behalf ol tho visiting players for the hospitality that had been extended to them.
