WELLINGTON, March 25. The Nautical Court set up to inquire into the stranding of the schooner valmarie on Farewell Spit found tho master committed a slight error of judgment in standing too close inshoro when approaching Farewell Spit. Although the chart, which was of a late issue, showed a sufficient depth of water, the New Zealand pilot gave him notice that the sands were shifting. 'the master was commended on the steps undertaken by him to save the vessel after she struck. The certificates of the master and mate were returned. No order was made as to costs. The court desired to draw the attention of the Marino Department to the evidence of the constant changing of the sands at Farewell Spit, and also tnat a warning bo given to shipmasters sailing in this locality.

Tho vessel is now expected to reach the northern port on April 10. NEW AUSTRALIAN COLLIER. Tho Bealiba, a collier of 500 tons, imported from the Clyde to replace the wrecked steamer Lubra, reached Sydney on March 15 from Paisley, in ballast. She was built by the Larne Shipbuilding Company, Ltd., last year, and has a length of 165 ft, beam of 25ft 3in, and depth of Oft 3in. Captain Leslie brought the steamer nut from tho Clyde via the Suez Canal route. DEVON FROM NEW YORK. The Federal steamer Devon arrived at Auckland on Tuesday morning last from Lew York and Newport Nows. Tho vessel discharged 1,300 tons of general cargo, and sailed yesterday morning for Wellington, where 000 tons will bo discharged. The balance of 7,500 inns is for Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. The Devon left New York on February 12, arriving at Newport News on the 13th to load tobacco and general cargo and fill bunkers.
