VESSELS IN PORT (IN COMMISSION). City of Hankow, Victoria wharf. Storm, Victoria wharf. Corinna, Birch street wharf. Kotare, Rattray street wharf. Very little work was carried out on the skipping in port to-day owing to heavy rain. The Storm, which arrived shortly after midnight last night from Oamaru, was worked under difficulties this morning. It is hoped to despatch her to-night for way ports and Wanganui. The*Corinna arrived at Dunedin at 8 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and lay idle throughout the day on account of heavy rain. She is listed to sail on Monday for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports.

The Kini, from Gisborne via ports, is duo at Dunedin to-night. She is listed to sail on Monday for Napier and Gisborne via ports. The Kaituna, left Lyttelton last evening for Dunedin. A wireless message received from tho captain states that the vessel is being delayed by bad ■weather, and will not reach port until to-morrow morning. After the balance of her Australian cargo has been discharged the Kaituna will go to Greymouth to load timber for Melbourne.

Tho Gale left, Wellington last evening for Lyttelton with tbs hull: Eaupo in tow. The Eaupo is to bo utilised as a- coal hulk at Lyttelton by the Canterbury Steamship Company. Tho Gale is duo at Dunedin on Monday to load for way ports and Wanganui. Tho steamer Buteshire is expected at Bluff to-day from Sydney to commence loading for West of England ports. She is later to visit Port Chalmers, Wanganui, and Wellington. Captain E. C. Vellcnowcth, bile of the Kittawa, is to proceed to Auckland to take command of the Flora, which will K e recommissioned at that port next Month. Tho steamer Treloske, which is loading New Zealand to the agency of the ''floral Line, is expected at Wellington ‘o-morrow from Bluff to complete her 'oading. She is expected to leave Wellington. on March 31 for Liverpool, Manchester, Avonmoutli, and Glasgow via Montevideo. Tho Canadian Government steamer Canadian Miller sailed from New York on March 15, and from Norfolk on March J 7, with general cargo for Auckland and Wellington. The vessel is duo at Auckland about April 15, and at Wellington seven clays later. The Commonwealth Government passenger steamer Hobson’s Bay left London on March 1 on her maiden voyage to Am tralian ports. The steamers Padua and Porim, which were purchased bv the P. and O. Company, are to be placed in the Australian cargo service. The Padua (ex Lun I and Perim fex Troucnfels) were former Gorman vessels. The Mcssageries Maritime steamer Andromede arrived at Sydney on. March .1-0 from Marseilles via ports. Formerly tho German-owned Fremantle, the vessel was seized by the French Government, and subsequently acquired by the M.M. Company for the Australian trade.

According to tho annual report of tho Wellington Harbor Board, just issued. Uu> number of arrivals at that port for the year ended September 50, 1921, totalled 2,782, with a- net tonnage of 2,895.812 tons. This number is an increase on tho previous year’s figures of twenty-four vessels, aggregating a tonnage’ of 197,091 tons. THE FERRY SERVICE. TIMARU HARBOR BOARD. At tho annual meeting of tho Timani Harbor Board tho chairman stated, that tho board had paid off tho debit which existed at tlxe beginning of the year, and had met all expenses, and started the current year with a clean sheet. Micro was no antecedent liability to wipe off. Referring to the board’s housing scheme for employees (eight houses have been built), the chairman said that it was generally admitted that the scheme was the best in the Dominion. Apparently tho houses cost £250 to £SOO less than in other centres. PALOONA DUE TO-MORROW, From. Melbourne via Wellington and Lyttelton tho Union Company's passenger steamer Paloona is duo at Dunedin tomorrow morning. On arrival tip vessel will be berthed at the cross wharf to discharge several hundred tons of general cargo. She is timed to sail at 2 p.m. on Monday for Melbourne via Bluff. WOODEN STEAMER BROXTON. [Special to the 1 Stau. ’] CHRISTCHUIIOIT, March 25. Tho wooden steamer Braxton baa been offered to the Union Steam Ship Company for conversion into a hulk. Captain C. MDcnald, tho company’s marine superintendent, inspected the Braxton yesterday. WRECKED SCHOONER YALMARIE. The wrecked schooner Valmarie, together with the hardwood cargo, will probably bo sold by auction at Wellington on Wednesday next. Tho Vnhnario went ashore on Farewell Spit on February 16 while on a voyage from Grafton (Now South Wales) in Wellington, The salvage operations would probably have proved successful had it not been for the heavy seas and spring tides experienced early this week, which did serious damage to tho hull. CITY OiniANKOW~ARRIYES; Tho A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer City of Hankow (Captain E. Mason) arrived at Dunedin this afternoon from New York and Norfolk (Virginia) via Auckland. Wellington, and Lyttelton. Tho vessel was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge about 1,000 tons of cargo, which includes 10,000 cases of oil. The bulk of the steamer’s cargo was loaded at Now York, and a quantity of tobacco at Norfolk. She left New York on January 13, Norfolk on January 17, and Panama on January 25. The voyage to New Zealand was uneventful. Although running under tho auspices of tho A. and A, Line, the City of Hankow is owned hy tho 1 cllo.rmann-Hall Lines, of Liverpool. She is manned by white officers and quartermasters, but she has Malay dock hands and lascar stokers.
