A GENTLE HINT.
A certain youthful billiard marker was recently informed by his employer that he would have to bo more careful in tho matter of chalk. “Can't help it, sir,” replied tho marker. “'I know tho gents wot pockets tho chalk; but they’s regular customers, and you wouldn’t like mo to offend them, would you, air?” “ Well, no,” was tho reply. “But you could give thorn a gentle hint, yon know." The marker promised to do eo, and a day or two later on, observing a player pocketing a piece of chalk, he approached tho culprit, and remarked ; “ Yoa’ll excuse mo, sir. but are you connected in any way with the milk trade ” 11 Well, yes,” was the reply. “What of it?” “I thought so, rejoined the marker, “by the amount of chalk you carry away. My governor sikes enterprise, and he told me to give you a hint hat if t you wanted a bucket pi water now and again you could have ooe with pleasure/’
