M'CULLOCH PRESENTATION FUND.
TO THE EEITOtt. Sir, —I forward 5s towards the fund which I understand is being organised by his fellow'-yachtemon for a presentation to Mr M'Culloch. It gave me great enjoyment during Carnival Week to witness all the races from the wharf, and I would like the many hundreds of people who had this “ cheap ” enjoyment to also forward! their mito to so good a cause. The sympathy of the man in the street is all with Mr M'Culloch in tho way he was treated at that time, and the last race must have been very trying to his nerves, knowing all that ho was up against in the way of “ officialdom.”
All I would liko to say is that I should have thought it was the judges’ duty to be closely following tho winning boats all the wav. and so have seen for themselves' tho incident of the Mnrihiku crossing the line of tho wall. All the thousands on the wharf that Saturday left under the impression that Heather had won the race, and there is no doubt whatever in the minds of tho onlookers that something went wrong right at tho end to enable Murihiku to pass Heather, and; I am only ono of many hundreds who was greatly surprised to sco by the “ Stop Press ” in that evening's paper that Murihiku and not Heather had won. With entire sympathy for Mr M'Cullocli—l am, etc., March 24. Fair Plat.
