ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

NORTHERN CLUB. The thirty-fifth annual .meeting of tho Northern Association Football Club v.ns held in Dormer’s Tea Rooms, North-east Valley, last night. Tho Chairman (Mr H. J. Duncan) congratulated the cluh on the success attained during the year. The first eleven had done well, but had lost ground in tho final matches.’ The other grades had also done fairly well, winning higher positions than during the previous season. He urged old members to come forward and assist tho younger men. Tho speaker referred in the proposed visit of the New South Wales team this season,_ and honed the Northern Club would its best for the visitors and co-operate with the other Dunedin clubs.

The report was adopted. Speaking on tho balance-sheet, Air T. Ruddiman said that it showed a debit balance of over £5, which was considerably above that of the previous year. 2 his was largely due to the fact that there were a number of outstanding subscriptions.

Air C. Ingram said that this was the fault of the committee, which catered for football “on credit.’’ If the members did. not pay their subscriptions they should not be allowed to play. Several suggestions were, made with a view to making up this deficit.

The matter of electing club patrons was left in the bands of the incoming committee. which was authorised to consider nominations.

HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS. The annual meeting of the High School Old Boys’ Football Club was hold last night at the Waratah Tea Booms, _ Mr Herbert Webb (president) in the chair. A hearty welcome was extended to Mr W. Strong and Mr Webster (president of the Old Boys’ Association). Mr W. MTnnes moved the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet. Mr A. J. Hey. in seconding the proposal, remarked that it was rather bard luck that the Old Boys’ Club co i!d rot put more than two teams into tho field. The report otherwise was very_ satisfactory indeed. The financial position, vith a credit balance of over £25, was too best in which the dub had found itself. The success of tho senior team ?n vanning the Senior Grade Cup was very gratifying. and it was largely due to Die tmo sporting spirit that animated the Miners. Mr E. J. Smith considered the report nnc of the finest he had ever hoard 'cad. They had started with a credit cf £4, ard finished with over £25. After all the gam© was the thing, whether it was Soccer dr Rugby. He was very pleased that the club had succeeded in getting to the top of tho tree, and. hoped it would keep there. Abernothy) hoped that the' forthcoming visit _ of the New South Wales team would giyo_ the same impetus to Soccer that the visit of the Springboks had given to Rugby, and he believed it would. Mr E. J. Anderson congratulat-vl I he club upon the fact that it was the fust institution to send £5 In toe association towards the guarantee for the visit of tho New South Wales team. Tho opening day of the season was fixed for Saturday, April 1. Mr Webster (president of the Old Boys’ Association) urged all members to_ join the association, and expressed his willingness to enrol new members. Mr Strong congratulated the president on his election for the fourteenth year in succession. He thanked members for his election as a vice-president, which he esteemed an honor. He was engaged in an effort to amalgamate all the Old Boys’ Associations in tho Dominion, and he was hopeful of success, for it would have a ■good influence on members. He wanted to see clean sport, and bo was sure that wherever the old boys played that would be shown.

Messrs Spedding and Scott (representing the 0.F.A.) were warmly welcomed. Mr Spedding congratulated the club on its excellent record, and on having sent as one of its delegates to tho_O.F.A. Mr E. J. Anderson, who, as president, was the right man in the right place. He hoped to sco the Old Boys’ Club this year _in tho same proud positnn that it occupied last year. (Applause.) He congratulated tho captain on his play and leadership, and the club on having been the first to come forward with its guarantee for the New South Wales team. Mr L. IT. Scott also returned thanks for Ills welcome, and remarked that he knew a few clubs who would envy tho Old Boys on their sound financial position. Ho coneratulatcd the senior team on its victory, which was all tho more creditable because it had won by clean football! At the close of tho meeting members were entertained at supper.
