EXPERTS FROM GERMANY
FEDERAL BAX REMOVED. Permission was given by the federal Cabinet on March 9 to admit six German experts to supervise the erection of a brown coal briquetting plant at Morwell, Victoria. In announcing that the Cabinet had decided to revoke its previous decision _ not to admit the experts, tho Prime Minister (Mr Hughes) said that originally an application was made by tho Victorian Government for permission to import certain machinery from Germany. Later an application was made for permission to bring out six German experts. It was open to question whether permission would have been given to import the German briquetting plant if tho application had been coupled with a request to admit German exports. “There is yet room for differences of opinion,” Mr Hughes added. “It has ncen slated to me, on behalf of certain English firms, that such experts could be obtained from Great Britain; but tho Electricity Commissioners have informed tho Victorian Premier that those having the necessary experience in the class of brown coal found at Morwoll and in Germany could not bo found in Great Britain or America, and apparently no one else would be satisfactory. In all the circumstances, therefore, tho Commonwealth Ministry, seeing that tho Stale has _ spent much money in the enterprise, will grant the necessary permission."
