METHODIST COUNCIL

*- The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Moihodist Council was held in tho Octagon Hall social room last evening, when tho Rev. B. F. Rothwell presided over a largo attendance of delegates. Sister Maud Coleman was present, and was accorded a hearty welcome. She gave an interesting address on the_ recent conference, and urged the claims of tho Deacon ess Homo -and Orphanage upon the Council and Connexion.. The Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt gave a report of the conference, dealing with its great figures and personalities, especially commending tho presence, and help received from tho overseas delegates, Bishop Locke fAmerica), Rev. Hargreaves (England), and the Rev. A. M‘Galium (Australia), who worthily represented their countries at all the conference functions.

Air Pratt also dealt with the great facts, functions, and finale of tho conference, and described very interestingly, tho trip to Whnngaroa and Russell, where tho Maoris welcomed the conference in Customary fashion, and some .mernorahlo services held at the spot where the Rev. Leigh and the early missionaries commenced operations a- century ago, and laid the foundation of the Methodist Church in this Dominion. Mr Pratt’s report was added io by trio Revs. Rothwell and C. Eaton and Mr B. Rosovcar. who all agreed that the recent conference war the most successful yet held, and must give the Methodist- L-hnrch right through tho Dominion a fresh impetus t-o continue and to extend the. work in tho next century. Arrangements were finalised tor the celebration of the centenary !n Dunedin, when the Rev. A, M’Callum (oi Australia) will he present and give the, address. Tho Rev. M. A. Pratt reported that the recent conference _ had accepted (ho invitation of tho council to hold the 1923 conference in Dunedin. Congratulations were extended to tho Rev. B. F. Rothwell _on his election to (lie distinguished position of presidentelect. and to the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt on his ('lection to chairman of the Otngo-r-ioiithlnnd district. The Rev. Mr Rothwell was thanked for his sendees to Ota pro Methodism during his ministry here, and best wishes were extended to the Rev. and Mrpy Rothwell for a. successful and happy ministry at Master) on.
