UNIVERSITY LITERARY SOCIETY
The annual meeting of the University Literary Society was held in the Upper Oliver Classroom last evening, Professor G. E. Thompson presiding. The annual report, as submitted by the secretary (Mr D. W. Faigan), said that the year had been a successful one, and the programmes carried out had been varied, interesting, and instructive. The presence of non-Uni-versitv members at the meetings was an indication that the work of the society was being appreciated. The report also detailed the ground covered during the year, and paid a tribute to Professor Thompson, who had rendered excellent service to the society. The report concluded by asking that all persons interested in arts find letters assist the society, and emphasised the fact that the society was open to nonUniversity members as well as University members. A member paid a high compliment to the splendid work done by Mr Faigan, the lion, secretary. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Professor Thompson (re-elected); secretary, Mr J. H. Coombs: committee—Messrs F. Robertson, T. Thompson, I). W. Faigan, Bennett, Adam, R. S. Bremncr, Misses Oswin, Matthews, and M'Callister, „ , The drawing up of the syllabus for the year was left in the bands of the Advisory Board, and it was decided that the usual meeting night be adhered to. After the business of the meeting Professor Thompson gave an interesting lantern lecture on ‘French Literature in the Seventeenth Century.’
