SCOUT NOTES

[By Kiwi.] dll communications to he. addressed to “ Kiwi,” 1 Star’ Office, before Jf.SO p.m. Mondays. A meeting of the executive of the local association was held at the association’s headquarters on Thursday evening last. The principal business before the meeting was tho appointment of examiners for badges. Practically tho whole of the positions required' have been- filled. It is a pleasure to record the splendid manner in which business people have accepted office. In several cases offers have been made to instruct lads in the subjects. Tills is a groat help to Scoutmasters, and will, if taken up by the lads, prove a source of educational enjoyment. More lads would take advantage of these offers of instruction, but proficiency badges, except those qualifying for first class, may be gained only by Scouts who hold the first class badge. The matter of getting new troops started in districts where no troop at present meets discussed. Tho trouble, however,’is the lack of officers. In the meantime, several gentlemen are to bo approached with this end in view.

Dominion headquarters have definitely decided to hold a rally of all Scouts at Christchurch early in 1923. A cheery lire jrreatly added to tltb comfort of the Mornington Scouts’ headquarters on Friday evening. The muster was a good. one. Wolf Cub Mason has been elected sixer, and Wolf Cub Lepino second. Ocean Beach Troop mustered strong on Wednesday, 15th. After roll-call th© troop was divided into two sections, which were controlled by the Scoutmaster and troop leader. Second class and tenderfoot subjects were taken by the Scoutmaster’s class. Scouts Steffens and MacPherson qualified for tho rank of tenderfoot. At the present time every Scout in the troop lias passed his tenderfoot, and nine have yet to pass tho second class. As the aim of tho leaders and senior Scouts is to be first clas scouts, they met under the troop leader to study for their ambulance badge. Tho principal subject for the evening was poisons. Leader Watt and Second Black gaining tho highest place. A treasure hunt (won by Second Watt) and an observation game were d laved before tho dismiss was called. Tho court of honor mot afterwards. On Saturday evening the troop attended the Municipal Baths for swimming and live-saving practice.
