Miss Ella -Shields comes to New Zealand witli a worki-widc reputation for her ! male impersonations, and will commence 1 her Dunedin season at His Majesty’s j Theatre on Wednesday next. Tho Aus- 1 tralian Press has been loud in praise of 1 Miss .Shields’s talent, eulogising her artistic rendering of that old-time favorite, 1 ‘Burlington "Bertie‘of Bow,’ of which she is said to give an entirely different render- j ing from what has been heard in the past. I It is described as a study of genteel vagabondage from its best angle. Miss Shields features four types of man—“a young swaggering naval officer,” “a typical English johnny,” “a milionairo hobo,” and the real resourceful “digger.” Her lad-like figure enables her to dress these characters true to life. She is said to possess a sweat voice and) undoubted personality, and, further, dances with the grace and lightness ol a fay. Another song that brought her into prominence is ‘You’re a Dog Gone Dangerous Girl,’ a psychological number admirably set and perfectly delivered. Mr Murgrovo, who is presenting Mies Shields, has selected a variety of imported vaudeville artists to support her.
