OTAGO ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The entries for Saturday's sports meetin f aro exceptionally good, some 250 haying been received for tho twenty-six events on the programme. Keen competi tion is assured in all tho championship events, and indications aro that when the points arc totalled up there will bo very little separating tho three leading clubsUniversity, Pacific, and Anglican—while Artillery should also poll well. The re-cently-formed Invercargill Club is making its first appearance in local sports, and, though not yet strong enough to lay claim to the banner, hi ex]>ectod to gain a fair share of the a wands, Bows being among the favorites for tho half-mil©. An interesting event will be the 440 Yard? Primary Schools' Relay Championship, in ■which nine teams have entered, necessitating the event being run in heats; while in the 100 Yards Handicap (under fourtoon years) tho splendid Cold of thirty will ho seen. It is gratifying to tho committee to aeo tho schoolboys taking such an interest in the sport, and it is hoped that tho parents will foster that interest by showing their cutkasiawr..
