ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

OLD BOYS' CLUB. Tho committee of this club, in presenting the thirteenth annual report and balancesheet, states: Tho activities of the club in tho field wore limited owing to a dearth of junior members, and it was possiblo to place onlv two teams in tho competition. The senior cloven put up a highly creditable pcr'''formanco. and, after consistent good play, carried off the first grade cup. It was not without a struggle, however, that this honor was achieved, and the final match with Kaitangata for the premiership was one of tho fastest .and mosfc-hard-fought soccer finals seen in Dunedin for some years. When we remember that our team was composed ' largely of players who had never before played senior football their achievement I becomes all tho more praiseworthy, and wo trust that their victory will have tho effect of spurring en the younger members of the club to greater efforts during tho coming season. The third grade olevon commenced the season well by beating handsomely ono of the strongest teams in that competition. I 'Through injury to players and other causes I the team was seriously handicapped towards ! the end of the year, 'it is rather interesting to note that the senior eleven scored ex--1 actly the same number of goals last season as they did in 1920. Right throughout tho season the club had tho use of tho school gymnasium for training purposes, and we h'avo to thank Mr M'lnnes for the largo amount of work ho did with the teamo in this direction. The high position held by the senior team was undoubtedly largely clue to the manner in which tho players .trained. To celebrate the senior eleven achievement in carrying off the seasons honors, several of the club's ex-players very "onerously entertained the active playing members to a most enjoyable smoke serial iii tho Overseas Club Boom. R. Allan (fullback) captained the Otago side in tno match Canterbury v. Otago, played at Oarisbrook. and H. ». Hwraway (oapUin) acquitted himself well at Tnvereargill in the match ,i"aiu«t Southland. The cash statement shows that, the club is in a very satisfactory financial position. W 3 have to thr.nk tao.se old boy* who, by their generous donations, Hoisted the club so materially ir. this direction We wish to congratulate the High School s*m'or eleven on their meritorious performance in retaining the Sfccrrefc Cup, mid hoi* to sve some of the member? of this and tho 011-.ov school teams amongst us in the approaching season.
