OBITUARY
Tho death occurred at Pickens few 'days ago of Mr William Syms, an old and respected pioneer of Marlborough, nt tho ago of eigkty-thrcs yoaw. Tho lata Mr Synss, who was a chemist by profession, arrived at Port Chalmers from England in 1853, and settled in Pictaa a year later. He had resided in that with one or two intervals, ever ciince. On two occasions Mr Syma acted as editor of the ' Marlborough Proas.' and was also Mayor of Picton in 1878. Ho occupied many responsible positions, and iook a big; part in the public life of tho community.
