SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho seventeenth annual meeting of tho Otago Society of Musicians was held in tho Social Hall, Central Mission Buildings, on Saturday evening, Mr G. W. Johnstone (president) in the chair. In moving the annual report and bal-ance-sheet, the Chairman referred to tho successful year the society had just completed. The balance-sheet' showed a credit balance of £27 6s, and tho membership an increase over last year. The society's chief object was the furtherance of music as an art and the welfare of its members, and the council had always given the most careful thought and consideration to tho various matters which had come before it durin.g tho year. The society had continued along the lines of last year in file matter of holding a general discussion on some subject of direct interest to the profession at each of the members' meetings throughout the year. These have been n great success, and been most helpful and instructive.

The report was 'adopted. A vote of thanks was passed to_ Mr Easton for his kindness in again auditing tho books of the society, Tho election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr J. K. Hartley; vicepresidents—Misses E. Torsion and B. Barth (re-elected) and Mr G. W. Johnstone; council—Misses M. G. Bannatvne, E. M. Logie, E. Hartley, B. Eavell, Mrs P. 11. Martin, Mr C. A. Martin. Mr H. Riddle was re-elected hon. secretary and treasurer.
