WAKE UP-BY 'PHONE
Much amusement has fioen created in literary circles in Paris over the brilliant idea of a well-known man of letters in regard to his telephone. Ho is a bachelor, and lives alone. His business makes it imperative that ho should get up not later than_B o'clock in tho morning, but, as with many others, the bed "pulls." He tried tho alarm clock experiment, but after one or two experiences he got out of bed, stopped the clanging, and returned from whence he came. His business, however, was suffering, so in desperation he thought of" the telephone Ringing up tho young lady in chargo of his particular line, he asked if she would mind giving him a ring every morning at 8 o'clock. She consented. Every day at the prescrbed hour ho is rung up, and ten minutes later tho lady puts through another call to make sure that her client has not gone to sleep again. His punctuality now is so marked that his numerous friends are both surprised and delighted.
