RAILWAY REVENUE
ANOTHER SHRINKAGE TO BE FACED. TRANSPORT OF TROTTERS. [Special to toe 'Staji.'] CHRISTCHU.RCH, March 20. At a recent meeting of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association a lengthy discission took place regarding the transport of horses to trotting fixtures. Complaints were received from trainers who had horses racing at the Forbury Park Club's Summer Meeting, and in view of tho fact that there was iittle hope of better treatment being meted out by the Railway Department "it was resolved to make 'iiuiuines as to the possibility of horses travelling from Lyltelton to Dur.edin by steamer. This has been done, and a satisfactory reply has been received, and, if carried into effect, the cost of transport will be reduced by one-half, while the loss of revenue to the department will bo between £2,000 and £2,500 for the three meetings.
