THE HOME DEMAND

Business in butter being done with London on the basis of 14d to 14Jd per lb, f.0.b., whereas not long ago it was on a 13d basis. Movements of dairy produce from Dunedin comprise 2,600 boxes of butter and 4,000 crates of cheese by tbo Port Bowen, now loading, and arrangements have been made for tho Remuera to lift 5,500 boxes of butter, tho Dorset to lift 2,000 boxes of butter, and the Tainui to lift 3,400 crates of cheese from this port. From the Bluff tho Corinthio takes 8,000 boxes of butter and 9,500 crates of cheese, and the Dorset 2,000 boxes and 12,000 crates. From Timaru the Cornwall takes 1,500 boxes of butter and 500 crates of cheese. From Lyttelton the Durham takes 1,000 crates of cheese, the Remuera 2,000 boxes of butter, and the TSinui 2,250 boxes and 1,000 crates of cheese. After these movements a fairly largo quantity of cheese will still remain iu store at the various ports awaiting shipment. The Home market for cheese is "steady, but the demand is quiet as compared with that for butter.

Although producers are still expecting one, there has been no further reduction in the ocean freights for dairy produce. The shipping authorities promised to pass on to producers any reduction they could effect iu the cost of operating their steamers.
